Call for Local Artists

Designing Murals for PKL Park GVL

Submission Deadline: February 16th, 2024

PKL Park, situated on a newly designated historical site within the vibrant Southernside community of Greenville, presents a unique opportunity for local artists to contribute to the cultural tapestry of the area. In celebration of the rich history surrounding the park and its location, we are seeking talented artists to craft murals that will adorn three walls facing Unity Park (adjacent to the new Unity Tower location) and one wall facing the entrance to the Swamp Rabbit Trail. With over 650k people on the SWT per year, over 300k expected at PKL Park per year and with the addition of many new residences on Mayberry St over the next 2-4 years, the impressions could exceed over 1 million per year

These murals aim to narrate the transformation of this once vibrant community into Greenville's epicenter for gathering, leisure, dining, fitness, and athletics. We are inviting artists to collaborate with us in shaping the narrative, encompassing key elements such as the MARK V Recording Studio, a significant hub for artists like Peabo Bryson and Moses Dillard, Mayberry Park's Baseball field, the Swamp Rabbit Trail with its 600k+ annual users, the role of adjacent railroads in Greenville's growth and history, the Textile Industry, and the impactful contributions of Mary Duckett to the community and the park.

Mark V Studios was founded in 1961 by the Huffman brothers—Bill, Harold, and Joe—Mark V Studios in Greenville, South Carolina, rose from the ashes of a 1969 fire, becoming a pivotal force in the music industry. The studio's enduring legacy is celebrated at PKL Park, a vibrant homage to its impact on Southern gospel and the broader musical landscape. Learn more about Mark V Studios here —>
